EXPERIMENTA is offering the opportunity for young and emerging media art practitioners developing site-related and/or public works to undertake a three-month mentorship with an established practitioner of their choice.
The mentorship enables an emerging artist to explore new creative directions, to expand technical skills and increase knowledge of networks, debates and business practice. Applicants are invited to select a mentor and develop a program of activity spanning a three-month period. The mentor may be accessed locally, nationally or internationally. If required Experimenta can provide the contact details of several suitable artist/mentors who are willing to participate in the program.
Applicants must be Australian media art practitioners who are 30 years or under. The mentorship will provide a fee for the mentee ($7,200 excl GST) and a fee for the mentor ($1,800 excl GST). The mentorship program should be completed by early December 2007

Managed by Experimenta, this mentorship is a part of the Australian Government’s Young & Emerging Artists Initiative through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body. Other Australian Media Arts organsiations ANAT, d.lux and MAAP are also offering mentorships:

Overview
ABC Innovation develops and manages the popular abc.net.au portal, which currently attracts over 25 million weekly accesses and growing. We are also responsible for driving strategic innovation in the ABC through developing new areas of content creation, audience connection and platform distribution, in partnership with other ABC content divisions.

We are currently seeking a New Media Designer to join our team in Melbourne. In this role you will design web graphics, interface components and solutions across a range of new media platforms and target audiences. The role will support the ABC’s Health abc.net.au/health and Science abc.net.au/science gateways, as well as the abc.net.au home page and associated network pages.

Key Responsibilities
-Under direction, design from concept to realisation a range of basic to reasonably complex interactive components and applications, including websites, flash and mobile, for a range of target audiences.
-Produce engaging designs, illustrations, animations, sitemaps and wire frames of consistent quality and technical compliance that will enhance the creativity and usability of abc.net.au.
-Work effectively within production teams, fostering and maintaining positive relationships in order to enhance output and facilitate the efficient production of creative content.
-Ensure adherence to production deadlines, and ensure maintenance of the highest possible new media design standards.

Selection Criteria:
1. Formal qualification/s (degree/diploma) in multimedia or graphic design.
2. Demonstrated strong graphic design and information architecture skills.
3. Demonstrated experience in designing a range of basic to reasonably complex, interactive components and applications, including website interfaces, flash applications, animations, wire frames and sitemaps.
4. Demonstrated experience in designing visually engaging new media graphics for a variety of target audiences.
5. Strong proficiency in a range of graphic and other new media software applications.
6. Ability to work effectively within a new media production team, and both give and receive direction.
7. Understanding of the design and production processes for new media productions, and demonstrated problem-solving skills.
8. Demonstrated organisational and planning skills, and the ability to deliver to tight deadlines and within allocated budgets.
9. Understanding of ABC output and ABC Editorial policies, an advantage.

Core purpose of the role is to edit raw footage into polished, entertaining and engaging 5-8min stories for distribution on DVD. Each story is like your own short film, content includes fast cars like Ferrari’s, Aston Martin’s, luxury boats, amazing resorts, jewellery and more.
Graphic treatment and an ability to apply effects are also required. Some shooting ability would also be an advantage.

You will be responsible for capture, logging, editing, effects, exporting, encoding for DVD & web delivery.

Short Term Character Animator position - Iloura

Short Term Position Required: 3D Character Animator, Animalia (10 wks)

Based in Melbourne, Australia, Digital Pictures Iloura is seeking to fill a position in their animation team. A character animator is required to work on the animated children’s series, ‘Animalia’. Originally written and illustrated by Graeme Base, the book is being made into 40 x half hour high end CG animated episodes with Iloura undertaking animation only on 20 of the episodes.

This is a 10 week contract with a July 30 start through until October 5 2007.

Iloura is supplied with rigged models and 3D Layout/Pre-visualization which will dictate lens information, camera placement, shot timing, rough character movement and action. Iloura is not undertaking any modeling, vfx animation, lighting, texturing, rendering or compositing. This is character animation only.


Required Skills:

Applicants must have at least 2 years industry experience in 3D character animation. They will be responsible for creating performance and motion for characters and objects based on the Director’s previz, including lip-sync, body and facial animation. Applicants must have a demonstrated understanding of animation principles, weight, timing and posing as well as character acting. They must demonstrate a proficiency in working with realistic characters including humans, birds, reptiles, quadrupeds and a variety of other models.

Applicants must be proficient in Maya or able to efficiently translate an equal skill set in a comparable software package to Maya.


Other skills:

Applicants must have the ability to work as part of a team, and must be able to work to production deadlines and under pressure. Previous involvement in episodic television production is an advantage.
