FIELD OF PLAY ::: gameplay in urban art

Digital Harbour will host a seminar on the intersection between location based gaming and public art to coincide with the launch of Field of Play, a new public art project by Troy Innocent.

The line between the virtual and the real is no longer clear. We now live in a mixed reality of ubiquitous media that is embedded in the world around us. This is reflected in recent developments in gaming that situate play within urban spaces using mobile phones or take a crossmedia approach that blends online, public and mobile spaces.

Join us for a discussion on gaming in public space. Speakers include: Troy Innocent, Monash University; Darren Tofts, Swinburne University; Helen Stuckey, ACMI and Rebecca Cannon, Select Parks.

Tuesday April 17th ::: 6-8pm

Job: Freelance 3D modellers / Animators

-------------------------------------------
Australian Children's Television Foundation
http://www.actf.com.au

//------------------------------------------------------------------//

Freelance 3d Modeler/Animator Required
"Kahootz"

Kahootz is a multimedia-authoring package for children: it includes a library of 3D models, environments, images and sounds, and tools for creating 3D scenes that include animation and interactive elements. Kahootz has been developed by the Australian Children's Television Foundation(ACTF)and is currently in use in schools across Australia, as well as overseas in New Zealand, the USA and the UK.

The Kahootz 3D library consists of over 500 files, containing objects, landscapes and fonts. As part of the continuing development of Kahootz, we are looking for two modeler/animators to create biped models for the next version of Kahootz.

They will be employed on a freelance basis, and work from their own workplaces, using their own equipment and software. The ACTF will provide detailed descriptions of the required models and animations as well as photos and video links for reference use.

The models will be delivered in the "*.w3d" format(a FAQ on w3d is available at: http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/director/articles/dir_3d_faq.html#sw3d).

It is important to note that models will need to adhere to a limit of between 1200-1500 polygons, as well as following our internal structure and naming conventions (the ACTF will provide a developers' kit, including documentation, testing utilities and example files, to assist with this process). Models will also need to include from 6 to 8 animation cycles where appropriate.

Modelers will need to deliver a complete set of resource files to the ACTF - including all model resources and textures used in their work - and these resources will become the property of the ACTF, along with the finished "*.w3d" files.

While modelers will be expected to work independently, the Kahootz team is able to provide support, if they experience problems providing models to our specifications. However, we can only offer this support to users of either Lightwave or 3D Studio Max, and so applicants should be prepared to use either of those tools. Applicants must live in Australia and have an ABN number.

There are two positions for immediate start at a fixed rate of $450 + GST per model.

Please send expressions of interest, including a cover letter, a resume and link to a portfolio, to jobs@kahootz.com as soon as possible(we are particularly interested in seeing examples of low polygon modeling).

Shortlisted applicants will receive a demonstration version of Kahootz and full technical specifications prior to interviews.
We are interested in applications from anywhere in Australia. We will interview Melbourne applicants in person: if you do not live in Melbourne, we will require a show reel on CD or DVD, and will conduct our interview over the phone.

For more information on Kahootz, see our website at: www.kahootz.com
For more information on the ACTF, see: www.actf.com.au

Personal update and JOB:::: Network Administrator

Hi all,
just returned from my trip to Tassie where I spent way too much money on excellent food and Mainland wines (didn't take to the prissy and overpriced Pino Noirs etc they make down there). Also walked up and down a mountain for 3 hrs to get to the famous wineglass bay and have a swim - if you've never heard of it, google it!
Anyway, I'm back and rearing to go!
Hope you're all well, happy and gainfully employed.
if not and you're suitably geeeky, the Job below might be for you (Sunny QLD).
Stay well!
Werner

I will be leaving the position of Network Administrator for the UQ Student Union to pursue full time study. Therefore the position will be vacant and we are currently advertising for a replacement.

We have 2 OS X servers, 2 FreeBSD servers and 3 windows servers (being consolidated), there are also about 80 Mac Desktops and 15 Windows Desktops. Support would be mainly at St Lucia with the occasional trip to Herston and Ipswich campuses.

I've actually enjoyed the role, it's been quite exciting and has scope to be made into ... whatever you want to make it into. For example, the main focus is the desktops and servers, however I've had time to do alot of web application development for the Union and recently started on creating a dashboard widget for keeping tally of student enquiries at the front counter.

It is being advertised as full-time but I believe this is negotiable.

So, if you're:
• good with people
• have a broad range of IT skills
• are good with prioritizing
• are self-motivated enough to work independently, and
• you're looking for a fun challenge
I'd recommend you have a look at this role :-)

If you're interested please send me an email (kimkaim@uq.edu.au) and I'll send you the Advertisement. Also, if you have any questions about the role feel free to email me.
